Analytics YouTube
What is YouTube Analytics?
YouTube Analytics is the reporting area inside YouTube Studio where you measure how your channel and individual videos perform. It groups data into 7 tabs, from reach and viewing behavior to audience makeup and earnings.
Why it matters
Analytics is your only first-party record of what viewers actually do: how many people saw a thumbnail, how many clicked, how long they stayed and where they left. Without it, packaging and publishing decisions rest on guesswork.
It is also where the metrics you optimize against live — watch time, impressions and audience retention.
How to open YouTube Analytics
For channel-level reports, sign in to YouTube Studio and click Analytics in the left menu. For a single video, select Content in the left menu, point to the video and select Analytics.
What each tab shows
Overview (channel or video) — a summary of how your channel and videos are performing, including the Realtime and Typical performance reports.
Content (channel) — how your audience finds and interacts with your content, including impressions and how they led to watch time, and top content. Channel impressions are segmented by new and returning users.
Reach (video) — impressions, impressions click-through rate, views and unique viewers.
Engagement (video) — watch time and average view duration; for Shorts it also includes engaged views.
Audience (channel or video) — monthly audience and subscribers, plus the share of new, casual and regular viewers.
Revenue (channel or video) — estimated revenue, available if you are in the YouTube Partner Program. Finalized earnings appear once your payments are added to AdSense for YouTube, typically between the 7th and 12th day of the following month.
Trends (channel) — what your audience and viewers across YouTube are searching for, which helps you spot content gaps.
Advanced mode and data limits
Under a report, click ADVANCED MODE or SEE MORE to open the expanded report. There you can add comparisons, break data down by dimensions such as content, traffic source and geography, filter it and export it. Groups combine up to 500 of your videos, playlists or channels into one view, you can save up to 50 reports, and a downloaded report is limited to 500 rows.
Some data is limited by design: geography, traffic sources and gender may be incomplete. YouTube also started gradually rolling out an updated YouTube Studio experience in July 2026, so your Analytics page may look different from older screenshots. For competitor research, third-party estimates like the ones covered in our guide to YouTube analytics for other channels can fill the gap, but only your own Studio data is first-party.
